West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Match Summary

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana

Pitch: 17

Toss: Bangladesh

Bangladesh won the toss and batted first on an excellent batting pitch, and were given a great start by their openers who added 150 for the 1st wicket.
Shahriar made 95, and Mehrab 71, and half centuries to Aminul Islam and Khaled Mashud allowed them to declare at a healthy 346/7.
An opening partnership of 98 between Gayle and Ragoonath, and a speedy half century to Arthurton allowed a declaration 140 behind for the home team.
Another good opening stand between Shahriar and Mehrab allowed Bangladesh to declare, and set the home side 243 to win in 47 overs.
A young Chris Gayle then monstered the Bangladeshi attack to make 151 at a run a ball, turning the chase into a doddle, with Lincoln Roberts making a barely noticed half century at the other end.
Defeat by 5 wickets felt cruel for Bangladesh given how well they competed earlier in the match, but their bowling shortcomings had been exposed and they end the match searching for answers.
