Toss: Pakistan
Pakistan won the toss, and elected to bat first, but with only Imran Nazir reaching 50, posted a moderate first innings of 260.

Windward Islands v Pakistan - 4 day First Class match 1998/9 - St Vincent
Pitch: 114 - A beautifully prepared surface offering a little help to the fast bowlers but encouraging the batsmen to play their shots. The ball will come quickly on to bat for most of the match and runs should be plentiful and attractively made. Whether the bounce may become excessively hostile later in the match remains to be seen but this type of wicket should promote a good game of cricket.

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Match Summary
West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana
Pitch: 17
Toss: Bangladesh
Bangladesh won the toss and batted first on an excellent batting pitch, and were given a great start by their openers who added 150 for the 1st wicket.
Shahriar made 95, and Mehrab 71, and half centuries to Aminul Islam and Khaled Mashud allowed them to declare at a healthy 346/7.
An opening partnership of 98 between Gayle and Ragoonath, and a speedy half century to Arthurton allowed a declaration 140 behind for the home team.
Another good opening stand between Shahriar and Mehrab allowed Bangladesh to declare, and set the home side 243 to win in 47 overs.
A young Chris Gayle then monstered the Bangladeshi attack to make 151 at a run a ball, turning the chase into a doddle, with Lincoln Roberts making a barely noticed half century at the other end.
Defeat by 5 wickets felt cruel for Bangladesh given how well they competed earlier in the match, but their bowling shortcomings had been exposed and they end the match searching for answers.

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana
After another strong opening partnership and a 2nd half century of the match to Shahriar, Bangladesh declared, setting the home side 243 to win off 47 overs.
West Indies were again given an excellent start by Gayle.
He carried on to monster the Bangladesh attack and make a match winning 151 at a run a ball as only he can, striking 20 fours and 3 sixes in what would become a trademark display in his later career.
Lincoln Roberts compiled a well made 50 at the other end, but was hardly noticed as Gayle turned the chase into a doddle.
Though it went to the last over, the home side had seemed in control throughout the run chase, and Gayle was duly named Man of the Match after carrying his team to a 5 wicket victory.
Bangladesh had batted well, and didn't really deserve to lose, but their bowlers wilted badly in the onslaught by Gayle.

Though left arm Roy Marshall worked his way through the batting to take 6-79, half centuries to 4 batsmen allowed Bangladesh to declare on Day 2 at a healthy 346/7.
Toss: Bangladesh
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat on as good a batting wicket as they are likely to encounter.
Their openers took advantage, adding 150, before Shahriar was unluckily out for 95.

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana
Pitch: 17 - Dark coloured pitch which the groundsman predicts will favour the batsman throughout. However there appears to be moisture just below the surface and any damage done by the heavy footed fast bowlers may well offer some help to the spinners later in the match.

The West Indies President's XI contains a number of talented players, but the bowling attack contains some weaknesses expected to keep the Bangladeshi batsmen in the game.
Bangladesh are lead by offspinning allrounder Naimur Rahman, and will be hopeful of competing well against less than Test strength opposition.

Having seen how weak some of the West Indies island players are, I am wondering whether Bangladesh might give some of them a good game..
I'm hoping the Bangladeshi batsmen in particular thrive on some loose bowling from the West Indies reserve Fast bowlers.

Roy Marshall continued his good form against the tourists with 4 wickets, but lacked support, with the fast bowlers disappointing.

Toss: Windward Islands XI
Windward Islands XI won the toss, and batted knowing the pitch would improve after the 1st session and become good for batting.
They lost 3 wickets with the score on 43 to fall in a hole before lunch, as a pumped up Waqar enjoyed the excessive bounce on offer.
None of the batsmen got going, and a good allround bowling performance by Pakistan saw the Windward Islands XI all out for 117 shortly before Tea on Day 1.
With the pitch now having flattened out, Pakistan would have hoped for a big first innings total to push for an innings victory over probably the weakest island team.

Pakistan would probably expect a victory here over what looks to be the weakest island side they will face on tour.

Pitch: 19

Despite Ijaz Ahmed's 85, Pakistan batted poorly in their 1st innings on a pitch which helped the bowlers throughout a low scoring match.
The visitors lost their last 6 wickets for 33 to be all out for 210 and put themselves under pressure against a competitive West Indies President's XI team.
Suraj Ragoonath scored 76 in the home team's reply, and solid contributions from the middle order gave them a 48 run lead.
Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Zahid enjoyed the fast paced pitch, taking 4 wickets to keep the visitors in the game.
Half centuries to Saleem Malik and Shoaib Malik allowed Pakistan to declare 200 ahead in their 2nd innings, but West Indies President's XI lost early wickets and never attempted the chase, playing out time before bad light ended play.
